Constructed between 1908 and 1909, the hotel originally opened as Sheahan's Hotel, named after its founder, Denis Sheahan. At its inception, it was one of Stanthorpe's largest buildings, boasting 30 bedrooms, four parlours, and a 12-foot-wide balcony encircling the structure.

Over the years, the hotel underwent several name changes—known as Quinn's Hotel in the early 1960s, then the Garden Hotel, before adopting the name Central Hotel in 1964.

Since February 2023, the Central Hotel has been part of the Star Hotels group.

It offers a vibrant dining and entertainment experience. The bistro serves hearty meals that reflect classic pub cuisine daily for lunch (11:30 AM—2:30 PM) and dinner (5:30 PM—8:30 PM).

You can enjoy a selection of 20 beers on tap, including local Granite Belt wines, in a welcoming atmosphere that often features live entertainment on weekends.
