Coming March between 10^th and 17^th March 2018 you can enjoy the Noosa Festival of Surfing. More than 800 entrants from 15 countries converge on the waves at First Point, cheered by crowds watching from the festival village right in front of the break.

This festival was established in 1992 at Noosa, Queensland by members of the Noosa Malibu Club, as an amateur surfing competition called the Noosa Malibu Classic. It allowed club members to invite friends to surf Noosa's right-hand point breaks and the event's popularity among competitive long boarders gave the club a chance to take the event to a higher level. In 1996 a professional division was introduced and prompted the name change to The Noosa Festival of Surfing(NFoS) in 1998. The World Tandem Surfing Championships were brought to Noosa in 1999 and Stand up paddle surfing was incorporated into the Festival in 2007 with live entertainment and fundraising auctions also being held.

The festival is currently sponsored by Global Surf Industries and is maintained and managed by USM Events and commences with the traditional Mixing of the Waters ceremony led by Hawaiian waterman Brian Keaulana. The Noosa Festival of Surfing is an official Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Longboard rated event.

Dogs hanging ten, pro longboarders and tandem surfers can be seen hitting the water for the Laguna Real Estate Noosa Festival of Surfing – the biggest surfing event in the world by competitor numbers.

Longboards, finless, bodysurfing and tandem –each style of surfing is showcased over eight days, with plenty of action in and out of the water. Here is how to enjoy the Noosa Festival of Surfing in best possible way.

Enjoy every surfing style

In this festival not only can you witness the pro’s carving it up, but you can catch some of the most innovative and kooky surfing out there. With 11 speciality events from the gravity-defying norerider division to boardless surfing and the Surfing Dog Spectacular you won’t get enough of the show playing out in Noosa’s perfect waves. There is even a costume party amongst them!

Get Involved

Be it old, young, child, junior, senior, or in-between, you can compete in the Laguna Real Estate Noosa Festival of Surfing. With an under 15’s section and an over 70’s section, age is no excuse for not getting up on a board and trying your best.

Even as a layman you can sit on the sand, watch, enjoy and do yoga

When it comes to all things surfing, sitting on the sidelines is just as fun. For the week, Noosa is transformed into surfie central so if you’ve always wanted to live like Kate Bosworth from Blue Crush for a week, here’s your chance.

Let the sun bleach your hair and the sand get everywhere as you live like a local, bouncing between the beach and the festival village straight off the sand.

Also you can take part in a 90-minute yoga session in the Nine Sunshine Coast Pavilion. You can strike your favourite yoga pose alongside the competitors while the surf waves produce the perfect background music or get involved with a Pilates or training session on the sand.

You can even catch a few screenings of surfing documentaries made in conjunction with the Life is Better When You Surf Film Festival. Along with two days of filmmaker tips mid-competition, the festival also includes filmmaking workshops, talks on new technologies, and short film competitions.

Build sandcastles with kids, families and get involved in Sandcastle-building workshops, competitions, and interactive performances at the Nine Sunshine Coast Pavilion.

Enjoy the surf party

Head to summer beach bar and enjoy surf party enjoying the sea breeze, ice cold beer and wine, and great music. After a busy day in the sun, it’s the perfect spot to down a bevo and let loose, with live local bands that have made waves at festivals such as Splendour in the Grass and Bluesfest.
