Ponyfish Island is a distinctive floating bar nestled beneath the Evan Walker Bridge on the Yarra River in Melbourne's Southbank precinct.

Established in 2010 by hospitality entrepreneurs Grant Smillie, Jerome Borazio, and Andrew Mackinnon, the bar is named after the mythical "Ponyfish," a creature rumoured to inhabit the Yarra River.

Following a significant renovation in late 2020, Ponyfish Island transformed from its original rustic, nautical-themed decor into a Palm Springs-inspired oasis.

The redesign, led by award-winning design firm Studio Gram, introduced terrazzo-topped tables, cushioned lounge areas, and custom sunshades in a soothing palette of beige, burnt orange, mint, and sky blue.

Dramatic curved archways and spherical lamps enhance the bar's sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere.

Bar and Bistro

Ponyfish Island offers an Asian-inspired menu featuring items like dumplings (prawn and ginger, Wagyu beef, pork) and steamed buns (vegan shiitake mushroom and XO, red duck curry, satay chicken).

The bar also serves pizzas, cheese and charcuterie platters, oysters, and a variety of other dishes.

The beverage selection includes a variety of cocktails, such as the signature Ponystar Martini (Passoa passionfruit liqueur, vodka, mango syrup, passionfruit, and lime) and the Grandma Smith (rum, applejack, green-apple syrup).

Shareable jugs of rosé sangria and Pimms are also available, alongside a selection of local beers on tap.

The bar hosts an "Aperitivo Hour" from Monday to Friday between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, offering selected beers, seltzers, wines, and spritzes at discounted prices ranging from $10 to $14.
